It essential to be armed with some must have products when you are on holiday, but you need to remember you are in a different climate so its something better to mix it up and take some things that will be better suited to the environment you are in.
FACE CARE
1. Clinicare Concentrated Cleansing Foam - On holiday ideally you want to pack minimal products with maximum benefits, so I ditch my normal cream cleanser and acid toner for the Clinicare Cleansing Foam it’s safe to use on the eyes too which is a bonus. You only need a pea size amount as it really foams up when you add water, and it leaves your skin literally squeaky clean which is what you need when you’ve been sweating at the beach all day it cleans away all unwanted SPF and sweat residue from the day leaving your skin fresh for your evening out.
2. Juliette Armand Exfoliating Enzyme Gel - You will only need to use this product a couple of times on holiday but it’s essential to ensure any dead skin cells that may have built up are removed but without irritating the skin, an enzyme peel is very effective that gently exfoliating even the most sensitive of skins… you simply apply the gel to clean skin and after 10 minutes, apply serum or cream on top of gel, if you are sun burnt though obviously avoid any exfoliating until redness has calmed down and your skin is left a little dry and flaky.
Juliette Armand Vitamin B Serum - This serum is a must for summer holiday as many different with vitamin B compounds such as Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Multi B Complex (B1-B2-B3-B5-B12) and Panthenol in it to target reddening in the skin and it’s great at calming agitated irritated skin. So after a day in the Sun Vitamin B Serum is definitely best product to help reduce redness, keep your skin hydrated and calm.
4. Juliette Armand Repair Cream - It moisturizes, enhances the natural regeneration function of the skin and protects it from damage caused by sunlight, improving its appearance, this cream has been designed to help repair damaged skin and there are so many factor on holiday that that cause skin to need some tlc such as sun damage, salt water, heat, sand, air conditioning, mosquito bites. It has a particularly fine and cool texture that is easily absorbed, while longer lasting moisture is maintained.
5. Clinicare EGF Pure Sheet Mask - I love a good sheet mask and the Clinicare range doesn’t let you down they are supper hydration and cooling so the perfect thing to recharge your skin after a few days of being in the sun! it contains a powerful blend of Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients to instantly soothe and calm stressed skin. Even after removal, the active ingredients continue to work, and they have loads of serum in the pack so if holiday packing is tight you can leave your serum at home and just take the mask as it can double up for both jobs.
6. Heliocare 360° Water Gel – I have just fallen in love with this range and whilst I use the Heliocare 360° Beige Colour Oil Free Gel on a daily basis at home because it has an amazing foundation effect coverage. My preference for holiday is the Water Gel it is a fantastic product for the beach, it is an intensely hydrating gel that absorbs quickly with a barely there, matte finish – I like how quickly it absorbs and doesn’t make my face feel clogged and it’s great all skin types, even the most sensitive ones.
BODY CARE
7. Exfoliating Body Gloves – It is a total Holiday myth that scrubbing your skin will remove your tan! It’s quite the opposite actually.
Exfoliating gloves are a life save for you skin especially if you like to get a good tan, giving you skin a good scrub a few times on holiday will help remove any unwanted dead skin cells and SPF residue which will make your skin a lot fresher, so the sun will be tanning new bright smooth skin not dry old skin.
This will in turn allow you tan to last longer and avoid that dry flaky skin you get after you holiday. But obviously SPF and a good moisturiser are a must too and you never want to exfoliate burnt skin if you have caught the sun too much then wait a few days until the skin has calmed down.
8. Heliocare Paediatric SPF 50 – Yes, I know I’m not a child, but I love the Heliocare range, but the alternative is their Dry Oils Spray, which is a great product, but I just prefer a cream so i opted to go for the kids one.
SPF 50 is a no brainier for me… If you find putting on SPF on a bit faffy then you might as well get factor 50 as it doesn’t stop you getting a tan it just effectively means your skin is protected for longer so thus less applications and better protection. So, I’m totally up for that, aren’t you?
SPF 30 filters 96.7% of UVB which is 1/30th (3.3%) and SPF 50 filters 98% of UVB 1/50th (2%) of UVB reaching the skin. So yes, both do a good job and work very well at protecting the skin it really is a marginal difference but if you look at the maths you will see why the higher factors are better.
THE SPF PROTECTION SUM
UVB factor (spf) x Average time it takes bare skin to burn (bb) = minutes of protection / by the UV index on the day
15spf x 15bb = 225mins / 8UV = 28mins protection
30spf x 15bb = 450mins / 8UV = 56mins protection
50spf x 15bb = 750mins / 8UV = 93 mins of protection
Here is the UV index for you reference and daily UV levels can be found on most weather apps.
Extreme: 11 and above
Very High UV index: 8 to 10 High UV index: 6 to 7 Moderate UV index: 3 to 5 Low UV index: 1 to 2
Join the factor 50 club and protect your skin for longer it’s a no brainer really.
9. Heliocare® 360° Oral Supplements – These tablets have come into my life at just the right time, not only are they a great supplement to support skins health and improve cell function they really support how your skin responds to UV. I have recently started getting heat rash with any sun exposure this is known as Polymorphic Light Eruption (PLE) – a red, blotchy skin reaction to the sun. so I’m very pleased to say that these little beauties keep it at bay and aid my skin to respond better to the sun causing less redness and irritation! I will be taking these all year round. To keep my skin in tip top condition.
10. Garnier Summer Body Hydrating Gradual Tan Moisturiser - Now this is my little hack to save my skin, as much as I love to feel the heat on my skin during a holiday my skin doesn’t like the sun, I’m definitely prone to burning and have to be careful, as I get older my need to be in the sun get less and less one because I want to protect my skin and two because if it’s too hot it’s just hard work sweating so I always moisturise with a gradual tanner on holiday, it makes me think I’m getting a tan so I don’t m need to be in the sun as much and also evens out my skin as my legs just never tan like the rest of my body does, if fact they could almost belong to another human they are that different in colour to my upper body! So, I opt for the Garnier gradual tanner it works well for me and comes in 2 shades, and it doesn’t go streaky.
I hope this has helped you think about the essential your skin might require while your away on holiday. Check out my online shop to get ready for your holiday.
