Treatment Overview
Focus Dual is a new treatment for achieving skin tightening, lifting, firming and contouring.
Focus Dual uses a combination of radiofrequency and microneedling technology to create a controlled trauma which triggers the body’s healing response of collagen and elastin production.
Both technologies used in this treatment stimulate collagen in different ways. Microneedling creates micro-traumas in the skin, thereby stimulating the healing response, while radiofrequency uses heat to tighten the skin from the inside out.
With Focus Dual you receive two treatments in one, meaning that you will achieve a stronger treatment and more effective results than when compared to having Microneedling and radiofrequency treatments individually.
The result is firmer, tighter, smoother, more lifted and hydrated skin.

What is the Dermapen microneedling treatment?Micro-needling, also known as “collagen induction therapy” (CIT), is a minimally invasive, non surgical procedure for skin rejuvenation. It involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled micro-injury which, in turn, helps the skin to help itself. Skin needling provides results similar to laser resurfacing and deep chemical peels but at a fraction of the cost and with minimal discomfort or downtime. Each fine needle creates a channel, or micro-wound to the dermis. This controlled micro injury triggers the body to stimulate the wound healing response. Fibroblasts and growth factors are stimulated to fill these micro-wounds with new collagen and elastin. In addition, new capillaries are formed leading to greater oxygen and nutrient absorption for a brighter complexion. A course of 3- 6 treatments leads to a reduction of scarring and stimulates skin rejuvenation, with improved skin texture, firmness and pigmentation. Creating controlled micro injury to the deeper layers of the skin, without the removal of the healthy surface layers, as with other resurfacing techniques, means there is rapid healing time and the preservation of protection from the environment. The Dermapen is an FDA approved device that is proven to provide less discomfort, with minimal to no downtime and provides greater results than a derma roller. The added advantage of the pen is that the depth of needle penetration can be altered during treatment. This enables us to provide a truly bespoke treatment plan to minimise discomfort and maximise results around sensitive and not so sensitive areas. The tip of the pen is small, allowing it to pass closer to the eyes and nose for a more effective treatment in those areas that are of great concern to many. The vibration of the Dermapen also helps to minimise discomfort.

Does the Dermapen treatment hurt? You may experience minor discomfort during the skin needling treatment. Depending on the aggressiveness of treatment, you may experience pinpoint bleeding during the treatment but not ongoing. You may find temporary redness of the skin for a couple of hours or a day depending on the treatment type. This redness often heals up quickly, however, if you experience any prolonged discomfort it’s advised to get in touch with me to discuss you aftercare routine.

How does the Dermapen work? This video explains what makes Dermapen the leading specialist in microneedling.
-
What will I expect from the treatment downtime?Day 1: Possible erythema and red appearance which varies between people. Day 2: A red or pink hue persists like a moderate sunburn. Light swelling may be noticeable on waking and usually subsides as the day goes on. Day 3: Skin may still be slightly pink. The slight swelling has usually subsided. On subsequent days the skin may feel tight and dry. Your normal skincare programme can be resumed after day 3, with more active products being introduced after day 5 or when the skin has returned to normal. Appropriate skincare will be recommended on the day of your treatment to help accelerate the healing process, protect the skin from the environment and enhance your desired result.
-
Is Dermapen the same as microneedling?Dermapen is a brand name for a microneedling tool. Instead of the traditional microneedling roller which is essentially a wheel covered in microneedles, a dermapen is a handheld device designed to overcome all the issues of a traditional derma roller. The dermapen offers adjustable depth so the treatment isn’t too deep in sensitive areas along with being fitted with surgical grade disposable needles for a patient’s safety.

What is the aftercare advice?DO NOT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE SUN After you have undergone your microneedling procedure, stay out of the sun and do not apply any sunscreen, due to the toxins that may be contained in the lotion. Post procedure, the skin channels are completely open, and any toxins contained in topical applicants may be harmful to you. DO NOT USE ANY “ACTIVE INGREDIENT” SKIN PRODUCTS Post procedure, avoid any skin care product that has active ingredients. These commonly include things like Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Retinol and other similar agents. The skin will be highly sensitive and these products will only irritate the it further. USE COLLAGEN STIMULATING PEPTIDES As microneedling serves to stimulate the production of collagen, the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than normal to recover optimally. Collagen Stimulating Peptides assist in that process, further aiding in the stimulation of collagen production. AVOID THE USE OF MAKEUP AFTER TREATMENT It is imperative that you let your skin “breathe” and recover for 24 hours after the procedure. The skin channels are open, and using a makeup brush can penetrate the pores, especially if they are very thin, causing further irritation. Using a makeup brush that has been used before can contaminate the skin and, consequently, lead to infections. Wait 24 to 48 hours before you apply face makeup to give your skin the necessary recovery time. USE A COOLING FACE MASK After you have undergone microneedling, you may experience some skin inflammation or redness. Using a cooling mask will help reduce the inflammation or redness of the skin, giving you more comfort. USE AN ANTIOXIDANT SERUM Antioxidant serums have properties that assist in healing the skin. Serums assist in soothing the skin and further reduce irritation. AVOID SWEATING As you sweat the pores of your skin will reopen, and the bacteria on your skin may enter the skin punctures. This can lead to a either a reaction or infection. DRINK WATER It is important to stay hydrated before and after your procedure to help your skin heal and rejuvenate faster.
